What's your favorite religion.
I want to also know your LEAST favorite religion. I want to hear yall kvetch and moan and call g-d's thunder upon and fatwa against the faiths ya love to hate, o non-religious brethren.
My favorite is buddhism. Rational savagery delineates the conceptual limits. Died out in India and Sri Lanka, a whole damn faith rose from the dead, not after three days but three centuries.
Least favorite? Catholicism. I mean, where is this religion going fer goodness sakes.
Your additions most welcome!

Re: Favorite Religion for the non-religious!
Fri, July 29, 2005 - 4:01 PMMost favorite - the Raelians. They have it all - their founder is a soccer celebrity, and they have cool UFOs and lasers and stuff.

Least favorite - the goddamned Mormons. It's like the USA Today of religions.

Sat, November 5, 2005 - 9:09 PMIf you love buddhism and dislike catholocism then you might want to see if Thomas Merton can change you mind. Here is my personal suggestion

Sat, November 5, 2005 - 9:51 PMGood point, Jough. I have found many of these old masters to agree very closely with Zen as well:

Re: Favorite Religion for the non-religious!
Mon, July 10, 2006 - 8:23 PMA fun tribe...too bad there are only 19 folks here!
As someone who does not believe in a God and yet wants to incorporate a spiritual perspective in my life, here are some "favorites" I'm checking out:
Friends (aka Quakers)
Unitarian Universalists
Baha'i (they are monotheistic, but pretty open)
Ethical Culture
I read a fair amout of Buddhist thought, but don't have a desire to do a meditation retreat. The silence of Quaker meetings makes them kinda like meditation, or at least one can choose to treat them as opportunities to meditate.
I'd be interested to hear peoples' thoughts/experiences on the above. -

Re: Favorite Religion for the non-religious!
Tue, August 22, 2006 - 7:29 PMMy favorite is Gnostics - least favorite.... muslims.
It is a personal thing..... I didn't realize until recently that I look Jewish..... really I didn't, I can trace my Scottish roots back to the picts so as far as I know no Jewishness (other than in spirit) but I have taken a heck of a lot of abuse from muslim males for years.....
one incident - hairdresser from Lebenon actually refused to do my hair! I thought it was because it was curly but the comment I overheard said to him was "It is not like that here"..... didn't make sense to me until people started actually asking me in the last couple of years if I was Jewish because I look so Jewish.
